Compliance and Data Protection in Morris County, NJ

Security paperwork that matches what is actually happening on your network.

If your insurer, a lender, a big customer or the FTC asked to see your information security program tomorrow, could you hand it over? We work with you to build the WISP, risk assessment and incident response plan, then keep the technology behind them working the way the documents say it does.

Serving New Jersey businesses since 2014 · 30+ years of hands-on technology experience

Sound familiar?

The binder says one thing. Nobody is sure the network agrees.

Most of the compliance trouble we run into isn't a missing document. It's a document that describes the company you were three years ago: old employees, old vendors, a backup system that got replaced and never written down.

You shouldn't have to become a security auditor to answer basic questions about your own business.

The WISP hasn't been opened since it was signed

It lists MFA, backups and access reviews. Nobody has checked whether any of that is still true.

The insurance renewal is sitting on your desk

Pages of questions about MFA, endpoint protection, backups and training, and you're guessing at half the answers.

Former employees may still have access

People come and go. Getting them out of email, the DMS, the accounting system and every vendor portal depends on someone remembering.

Nobody is really in charge of it

The FTC Safeguards Rule calls for a Qualified Individual. In a lot of businesses, that's whoever signed the form.

The people running your technology should keep the paperwork honest.

When the compliance documents live with one company and the systems live with another, they drift apart. Someone swaps the firewall, adds a vendor or turns off MFA for a shared login, and the WISP never hears about it.

That gap shows up at the worst possible time. If your insurer asks and you can't produce the plan, you're answering with guesses. If your business is covered by the FTC Safeguards Rule and unencrypted information on 500 or more customers is taken, the FTC's 30-day reporting clock starts whether your paperwork is ready or not.

When we also manage your systems, we see those changes as they happen and update the record. We'll also be straight with you about where our job ends: we build and maintain the program and the technical controls. Which laws apply to your business, and whether you meet them, are questions for you and your attorney.

The question we start with:

If something went wrong tomorrow, could you show what you had in place and what you did about it?

A working program lets you answer yes.

We understand how frustrating it is to be responsible for rules you didn't write, covering technology you don't manage day to day.

You shouldn't have to manage your IT provider just to keep your business running smoothly. That includes the security paperwork.

What's included

What Compliance and Data Protection Support Includes

Tech Marvel builds and maintains the documents, records and technical controls that an information security program depends on. What you need depends on your industry, your data and what you're being asked to prove, so we sort that out first.

Once a year, it all comes together in a written report to ownership: where the program stands, what changed, what's still open and what we recommend next.

Sample report

Written Information Security Program (WISP)

We start from our own WISP framework and fill it in with you: your systems, your data, your vendors, your people. Access reviews, restore tests, training records, vendor reviews and approved exceptions are kept in one evidence workbook, so you're not digging through email when someone asks.

Written risk assessment

A register of the risks that actually apply to your business, how likely they are, what's already in place and what comes off the list next. It gets revisited at least once a year and after big changes, new vendors or an incident.

Incident response plan

A written plan that names who makes decisions, who gets called and what happens first, plus a one-page quick sheet your staff can actually use at 8:30 on a Friday night when an email looks wrong.

Qualified Individual and annual report

We can serve as your Qualified Individual or do the work for the person on your team who holds the role. Either way, you get a written annual report to ownership covering risks, incidents, backups, training, access reviews, open exceptions and what we'd recommend next.

The technical controls behind it

MFA, encryption, endpoint protection, patching, access control and backups, delivered through our cybersecurity protection and backup and disaster recovery services, so the documents describe something real.

Insurance and security questionnaires

We help you fill out cyber insurance applications and customer or vendor security questionnaires based on what's actually configured. If a control is missing, you hear it from us before you sign.

What you can expect

Who this is for

Who Needs Compliance and Data Protection Support

Compliance support fits businesses that hold customer, patient, payment or financial information and need to prove how it is protected. That usually means 20 to 100 employees, more systems than anyone internal can keep track of, and someone outside the company asking questions.

Auto dealerships

Dealers that arrange or offer financing are generally covered by the FTC Safeguards Rule. See how we support dealership IT.

Medical and dental practices

HIPAA expects documented safeguards for patient information. We handle the technical side and the documentation; your privacy officer and counsel own the legal calls.

Businesses that take card payments

Your processor expects PCI DSS controls. We take care of the network, device and access pieces that fall on the IT side.

Anyone fielding security questions

Law firms, collision centers and professional offices answering insurer, lender or customer questionnaires about how data is protected.

Who you'd be working with

A local team that already knows your systems

We bring more than 30 years of technology experience and have been helping businesses get dependable, responsive IT support since 2014. You work directly with owner Ron Conti and senior technician Brian Eitelberg, the same people who manage your network and keep your documentation current.

"Ron and the team at Tech Marvel have been fantastic to work with. They're responsive, knowledgeable, and always take the time to explain things clearly. Whenever we have an issue, they're quick to help, but they're also proactive about keeping our systems secure and running smoothly. It's great having an IT team we know we can rely on."

FAQs

Compliance and Data Protection Questions

Does Tech Marvel make my business compliant?

No IT company can promise that, and you should be careful with one that does. We build and maintain the program, records and technical controls. Whether a particular law applies to you, and whether you meet it, is a legal question for you and your attorney. We'll work alongside them.

Can you serve as our Qualified Individual under the FTC Safeguards Rule?

Yes. We can serve in the role, or do the work for an employee who holds it. If we serve, the rule still has you keep a senior person on your team overseeing us, and your company stays responsible for the program. We'll set that up so it's clear who does what.

Is the incident response plan part of the WISP?

The WISP sets the rules for reporting and tracking incidents and includes a one-page quick sheet. We also write a standalone incident response plan covering roles, decision authority, communications and the review afterward. For businesses covered by the Safeguards Rule, it should also account for the requirement to notify the FTC within 30 days when unencrypted information on 500 or more consumers is acquired without authorization (16 CFR Part 314).

What does compliance support cost?

It's included in certain managed IT plans and is otherwise built into the agreement we put together with you. What you need depends on your industry and what you're being asked to prove, so we'll lay out the options during the IT Roadmap conversation.

Can you help with our cyber insurance application?

Yes. We go through the questions with you and answer them based on what's actually configured, not what someone hopes is configured. If the application asks about a control you don't have, you'll know before you sign, along with what it would take to put it in place.

We already have a WISP. Do we have to start over?

Usually not. We compare what you have against how the business runs today and update it. If it's a generic template that never got filled in, rebuilding it in our framework is often faster than patching it.
